I know I touched on this before but when it comes to any products I use, it has to be at least cruelty-free. It's a bonus if it's vegan too.
Whether it was asked for or not, I want to share the brands I use for anyone that's curious. I personally believe that beauty, cleaning or any other kind of products shouldn't be tested on animals. I really wish more companies would think like if you're unsure of how a certain ingredient or combo of them is going to react with human skin, then don't use it!
Now I'm not saying everyone should throw out everything else and go buy these
right now. These are just the ones I like using and if you're interested
enough then check them out if you want to! I don't think it needs to be said
but I'm also not shaming anyone. You choose what you want to use, I'm not your
mom.
Anyway, here are the brands I use in no particular order...
(You can
click on the logos to visit their site!)
I use NYX for nearly everything. Eyeliners, black and white pencils and eyeshadows, glitter glue - I love this brand. Their items work really well even in the heat. They also have good staying power. I inadvertently tested this when I worked at my last job and was up at 4 in the morning.
I blame some of the Japanese Jfashion people and even some gals for making me hunt for L.A. COLORS. For a while it was actually hard to find and I had to order their stuff from their website. But I found the favorite 16 color rainbow palette and I don't regret it. And of course, I started seeing the brand in stores after that but at least it's more readily available! They are very affordable and the quality is actually decent.
Another brand I was waiting for in stores. I always saw their concealer in makeup tutorials and a lot of people recommended it. Finally, stores in my area started carrying the brand and I tried it out. I love it. It works well for nose stripes and old school styles! I even got some of their bright color pencils and they're pretty good! But I really only use the concealer XD
When doing Tsuyome and Manba, you have to have a good contour. I love the one from this brand. There is a good range for all skin tones and they're pretty pigmented. I haven't really used any other products but I can definitely recommend the contour palette!
Another brand I only went to for one item XD But the mascara is perfect for gal! It has really cute packaging and it actually works. They also seem to have a lot of good lip products that I would love to try.
If you shop with Indie brands, you should definitely know this one. They finally started selling in beauty stores and became a little bit easier to find. I have used a lot of their stuff and they're all pretty good while being affordable. They also do a ton of collabs with popular brands like Disney, Sailor Moon and even Animal Crossing. My only major complaint is when a big collab drops, scalpers have become a major problem. But most of their products are well-stocked and eventually do come back.
After getting more into makeup, I upgraded to Milani. Like NYX, these two are on the higher end of drugstore brands. I absolutely love their foundations. I have used a number of their products including eyeliners and eyeshadows and love them too. So if you're like me and not quite ready or don't want to go for super expensive products, Milani is a good way to go.
I have tried a number of their eyeshadows and fell instantly in love. My favorite has to be their "Take Me Back to Brazil". It's so pigmented and very colorful! This is another affordable brand and they have a lot of great products. All of their palettes are really nice.
-whew!- I hope you buns enjoyed my list and found it helpful. I don't use super expensive brands/products. I just do a combo of Indie and drugstore brands. So there are a good amount of options without having to spend a lot!
Do you use any of the ones I listed? Let me know!

OOOOH YYASSSSS thank you so much for this post! I use a lot of cruelty-free brands and have quite a few NYX products, but I haven't heard of the others before (apart from Colourpop but idk if we can get that in the UK).
You can def buy from e.l.f., Milani and bh cosmetics. They have international shipping. I found some info about Colourpop by getting free shipping (buying 50$ worth of product) and using their parcel service. I am not sure 100% on that but you should be able to!
I love essence!! We have that physically available here but not all the products of course... but the mascara is truly good! I do have essence lipsticks too and I like them.
NYX just left Taiwan for the third time -_-; but I really enjoy their products as well when I was in the USA! And elf is also so good :3 But have to order online here...
I saw LA colors from Kurebayashi a lot XD and the palettes seem so bright!!! But I have a bh cosmetics one now so I am resisting buying products I don't need haha
Sometimes I wish it was easier to know if a brand is cruelty-free; since it costs money to get certified, a lot of brands just don't bother. And it's not trendy here to label cruelty-free, so there's really no way to know XD It's probably not cost-effective for brands to get the certification if it's not going to boost sales here
Yeah I was looking at the Essence lip stuff! I want them sooooo bad!
Omg why does NYX leave???
Yes! Kurebayashi was the one I saw in a lot of the kawaii pateen videos XD She made me want that palette so bad XD But which BH palette do you have???
There are websites I use to check if Google's search doesn't 100% confirm for me. I like to use My Beauty Bunny and Cruelty Free Kitty websites to confirm things. They also list when a product is vegan if applicable!
OMG I have the "Trendy in Tokyo" eyeshadow palette from BH and I absolutely adore all the colors and how pigmented they are
I want to get that palette next!!!
