One of the biggest topics that seems to never disappear in gal is the debate of needing droop or not. I get that everyone has their own opinion about how gal should be but...shouldn't something like eyeshape be left up to the individual gal? Or is this a silent rule that no one talks about?
When I look at eyemake, I go by what style I'm going to do. Some styles just look better with one eye shape over the other. Of course this all goes out the window when talking about oldschool. You saw a lot of the styles with just no droop at all! It wasn't until much later that you saw it was at least divided. And even then, some gals still did their unique eyemake while wearing another style.
Later on, even now, I see a lot of gals talk about needing a droop. I honestly don't see a huge issue with this. I personally would definitely do a droop when it comes to styles like Tsuyome and Manba. But I feel it's a bit more flexible with styles like Hime/kaji and Amekaji. And if you're going to do gyaru-kei or what the gals did way back in the 90s, I would say those are definitely droop-less.
But regardless, what does that even matter? I don't think it's going to make or break your gal co*de. I remember the rule of thumb being that you either had lenses and top lash or you could opt out the lenses if you had bottom lashes. Never heard of any necessity for droop before.
So, what do you all think of the eyeshape situation Do you see it as
being a certain way? Is it as important as everything else? Or is it a personal
preference? For me personally, it's not that big of a deal as other things. It also depends on the gal's face and look they're going for. Also, I'd like to clarify that this does not mean it's okay to do whatever you want in terms of gal looks. If it's cosplay or using elements from another style (like using wispy lashes), it is not gal! That being said, what do you think?! Let me know in the comments~

I definitely agree! I’ve been seeing a lot of “you need a bigger droop/add a droop” but there’s so many styles of make without them! all up to personal preference ^_^ 🤔 if you can up your eyemake in other places so I don’t think it’s necessary to have a big one
Thank u so much for putting in Kiyomins eye tut...I was trying to remake her eyelook by just looking at a pic of here...x33 I personally think droop is great when u want to look cute and no droop when u want to look mor elegant.. personally always make a subtle droop...I like it that way one me :))
This is such a good topic! I actually never thought about that before. For me the dropp is a NEED. However I also think that depends on the style, the person preferences and the shape of the actual eye. Like The droop has to be there most of the time but in some situations you're going to see it super subtle and in others super dramatic. I think all of them are ok. *And I'm not considering the OG super old-school looks because even if those looks were super gal, I feel like the makeup trends and techniques were just starting.
I just think as long as the makeup is dramatic, then it's okay hahaha. I guess the droop is just more... Well, more people do it so it's a more recognisable gyaru shape?
For me personally though - I have to do a droop otherwise I just look normal 😅
What an interesting topic!
For me, I think it depends on the complete look. If I am just starting out, I would want to follow looks quite closely, but once you understand the essence of gyaru, the individual details don't matter as much as your overall style.
Besides, depending on your eye shape/lashes you use/other makeup or accessory features, droop may or may not even make much of a difference!
Exactly this!
Awww no problem! And yes, this is definitely one way to look at it!
I think it's a good topic that more people should discuss. I see it brought up a lot of times but nobody really says anything different from anyone else XD So I'm glad it made you think on it ^o^
That's what I was saying to Georgie too XD Cause you and I don't use lenses and I think lenses really make the look when you don't have certain features. I'm trying to find the happy medium XD
I agree! I would love to see you try simple gal makeup <3
I agree there are a million different ways to do a gal droop, or even not at all, before giving advise people should ask what style someone is going for before trying to make everyone follow their personal preference.
I agree with you when you say it's "not a big deal" or that it's not a requirement. I also agree with it being something I change depending on my outfit / substyle / theme. I prefer a droop for myself but I understand if some Gals don't do the same. For a long time I just admired the style, but found it hard to perfect on my own eyes; it looked very odd with my facial structure. After years I realize what looks best on me is a subtle droop / open eye (As pictured by Yun in your post!)
1000%!!!!
